aint Lucia Labour Party Communications Director, Lisa Jawahir, says youth will be at the forefront of the party’s development agenda.

Jawahir says youth are important to the progress of both the nation and the party. Advocating for youth, Jawahir says the party has an active Youth Organisation.

We are bringing the resources to the young people,” Jawahir says. She recalls the positioning of the office of the Youth Economy Agency, stating that the philosophy of the party is to meet youth where they are most comfortable. “[The Prime Minister] put the Youth Economy office on the Chaussee road. People would ask why would you put the office there, but that’s where the young people are. That’s where they are. We are not just talking the talk, but we are walking the walk.”

Jawahir, being a young person herself, says the party remains committed to giving qualified youth the opportunity to prove themselves. She stresses the organisation does not use youth as “political pawns.”

As a young person in politics, I am proud to say not only does the leadership choose young people to sit in the Senate, but they are also qualified - they’re experienced young people, and that is the calibre of people who support the labour party,” she says.
