United and Strong Condemns Physical Altercations Among its Members

Tuesday, Nov 21

United and Strong Director Jessica St. Rose says the organisation does not endorse its members engaging in physical altercations with one another.

The Director’s statements follow viral videos of two of its members in an almost-deadly brawl in Vieux Fort on November 17, 2023. Following a verbal back-and-forth, the two exchanged blows in the ATM section of a bank in Vieux Fort.

St. Rose says the advocacy group’s mission is to raise awareness of the struggles of LGBT people in Saint Lucia. There are healthier ways, she says, to handle disagreements.

The incident which took place last Friday (Nov. 17) has sparked a lot of waves throughout the community. At United and Strong, we absolutely do not condone that kind of behaviour; we do not appreciate the fact that community members are fighting among themselves,” St. Rose told SNO.

St. Rose says the brawl hinders the work of the organisation in making society more accepting of LGBT people. “As an organisation, we believe that we are working towards the advancement and acceptance of LGBT persons in Saint Lucia. This sort of behaviour does not paint us in a good light. This shows a lack of respect among our people. I hope the community can come together,” she explained.

The incident on November 17 resulted in one male being hospitalised following stab wounds to the hand and stomach. According to emergency personnel who responded to the stabbing, the victim is in stable condition.
