Reports say the teenager was shot just after working hours on the first day of his new job on Commercial Street, Vieux Fort. Prescott’s family says his untimely death did not come as a surprise. According to them, young Markus was involved in gang activity.

“I not lying. I can say he was in a gang. It break my heart but I know he would die. I keep on telling him what he doing, they will kill him. Once I tell him that and he tell me he know,” his father, Mark Prescott revealed. The father had to deal with the violent death of another son of his two years prior. Gregg Prescott, 24, was gunned down in his Vieux Fort home.

Prescott also revealed that he feels some relief knowing that his son is gone, observing the increased intensity of gang activities. He expressed his fear that if his son were still alive, gang members would target the family.

“Right now, I a kinda way free because [Mikus] die already. So they might not come for me because I doesn’t do nothing,” Prescott said. He appeals to gang members to end their violent killings of each other. “It ain’t worth it. We are all black people together. Why we killing one another? For what? We are all Vieux Fortians together. Only God alone can put a stop to it.”

Reports indicated that Markus Prescott sustained gunshot injuries to his stomach and back on Commercial Street, Vieux Fort on Friday. Emergency personnel from the Vieux Fort Fire Station responded after learning of the incident at about 5:26 p.m. However, the victim exhibited no vital signs.
