T

he Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is reeling from the devastating news of the untimely death of Constable 170 Shem Severin, who tragically lost his life in a vehicular collision along the Cul De Sac Highway in the wee hours of Dec. 20, 2023.

Police Commissioner Mrs Crusita Descartes-Pelius echoed the grief and pain of the Force in a statement after the constable’s passing.

Our beloved Shem Severin, Constable 170, took his last breath, following an unfortunate vehicular collision,” Commissioner Pelius said. She recalled some of her favourite moments with Severin. According to her, he was a motivator and team player.

On a cricket pitch, he was not only the comedian but the motivator. A young man, who was a team player, a person at ease in any environment; he would shine equally bright in a formal setting as he did on a playing field,” she said.

Severin represented both the Senior National and Police Cricket Teams, leaving an enduring mark in the Windward Island Senior Tournament and various regional support operations.

Describing Severin as the glue that held the force together, the Commissioner emphasized his significant role within the RSLPF. She remarked, “His humility was as impressive as his towering stature, and his passing is a significant loss to the RSLPF.”

The RSLPF has lost many serving members this year. The Commissioner is urging the members of the force to band together as the organisation forges ahead.

May we find a path to healing by relying on the formidability of the collective. We are stronger together. May he, and all those we have lost, rest in peace. May the Lord strengthen us during this time.”
