esidents of Vieux Secreiux are living in fear for their lives - that’s what one brave resident had to say to SNO.

According to her, unknown individuals have been firing guns in the air in the community nightly since December 31, 2023.

The woman, who spoke to SNO anonymously, said her grandson narrowly escaped injury while in his bed. She says when called, the police said they were unable to immediately respond to the incident.

It was about after one [in the morning], I heard two gunshots. That has been happening off and on but from the start of the year, it has been a nightly occurrence. I heard the bullet when it hit the house and I got up to watch the cameras…when it was raining in the morning, my grandson told me that water was wetting him in his room. When we checked the roof, we saw where the bullet hit the galvanize. The bullet is still in the ceiling,” the woman explained.

Police response frustrated her, she said. According to her, the police cited a lack of vehicles and personnel as the reason why an immediate response was not forthcoming.

I called the police at around 6:38am, after 8am and after 9am. At all times, they said they don’t have vehicles. They said they’ll pass it on to the supervisor, but no one has come yet. No one has called yet. Up to now, nothing. My grandson could have died and that’s when they would come with caution tape. But by then it would be too late,” she lamented.

She criticised law enforcement, demanding more patrols be done in the community.

The police want us to work hand-in-hand with them but they’re not helping us. From since that morning, I called, and nobody has come to my rescue to see what is happening. I don’t believe there’s anything they can do but go on the TV and yap.”

The RSLPF has called on citizens to assist them with their investigations. The government is also providing resources to the police to help them carry out their duties.
