rnold Joseph, a 17-year-old fifth-form student of the Entrepot Secondary School, was fatally shot by police on May 22nd, 2019.

January 30th, 2024 would have been Joseph’s 21st birthday and his mother, Joanna Joseph renewed her calls for justice.

Usually every year of his birthday and every year of his death, we try to have his memory alive. We put up some decorations and put up some balloons. Sometimes I feel like instead, it gets easier, it gets harder,” she explained.

Hopefully, justice is being served in Arnold’s name. Most of the time, these cases are being swept under the carpet and they are forgotten. Families do not have the finances to go ahead with the case. We do not get the support,” she lamented.

She says the police have yet to provide an update on her son’s case.

No one has called, and no one has given me any updates, but I’m hoping that the new police commissioner is going to make something happen.”

Arnold and two other individuals were traveling in a vehicle in Castries, which, the police said, failed to obey a command by police officers to stop. The police stated that the “suspicious” vehicle ventured through one-way streets in the city, contravening traffic regulations.

During an attempt to apprehend the individuals, one individual was fatally shot, whilst a second was non-fatally injured. A third male was arrested without injury.”

That same month, Glen Gabriel, the driver of the vehicle, was charged for several traffic violations. The police also indicated that a 9mm firearm was recovered from the individuals. There have been no related charges.
