Prime Minister Addresses 11th Homicide, Among Other Safety Concerns

36-year-old man has become Saint Lucia’s 11th homicide after he sustained shooting injuries on Tuesday, February 6th at about 10:20 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Rick Kisna of La Ressource, Vieux Fort.

In a statement on February 7th, Prime Minister Pierre made it clear that the government will never compromise with criminals or criminal elements in the country.

The Prime Minister vehemently condemns the spate of callous shootings that have resulted in loss of life and injury. Ensuring the safety of our citizens, inhabitants, and visitors to our island is a non-negotiable priority,” Pierre’s statement read.

He adds that the police have the government’s full support to use every inch of the law to restore order and justice to the country. He says the government will also continue bolstering the police’s capacity for crime-solving by allocating more resources to them.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has the full support of the Prime Minister to, within the confines of the law, execute the necessary tactical operations and effect the appropriate anti-crime strategies that will effectively restrict gang-related criminal activity,” he said.

He continues, “As Minister for National Security, the Prime Minister continues to facilitate the allocation of crime-fighting resources and tools to the RSLPF at every possible opportunity.”

Pierre states that his government is committed to meeting crime at its roots by implementing and funding intensive social programmes.

Simultaneously, the government continues to implement targeted social intervention programmes that will divert and protect vulnerable populations from the lure of criminal gangs.”

Recently, the police have released information regarding ongoing investigations, indicating positive results by way of arresting and charging perpetrators for illegal arms and murders.
