On Sunday, she blazed to a world-leading time to win the 60m dash at the 2024 Millrose Games in New York. The 22-year-old sped to a time of 6.99 eclipsing the 7.01 run in Poland by Ewa Swoboda on February 6.
Finisterre congratulates Alfred and predicts a bright future ahead of her.
“Well, I mean yesterday's run was a massive run for a number of reasons. The World Indoor Championships are coming up next month in Glasgow and it would be Julien's first time competing if she is entered for the World Indoor Championships. It would be her first time competing but she would probably go in right now as a favorite. She's run under 7 seconds four times in the last year alone,” he observed.
He says Alfred continues making a name for herself as she’s the youngest to achieve such a feat.
Continuing, he said, “There are only three women who have run 7 seconds at least four times - herself, the great Mali Notti, and former world Indoor Champion Irina Privalova of Russia. Of those three, she is the youngest to have attained those kinds of times and for her to have done it four times in the space of just about 12 months signals where she is in terms of her development.”
Congratulatory remarks also came from Prime Minister, Hon. Philip J. Pierre and members of Parliament. The populace basked in the success of Ms. Alfred and shared their hope for an Olympic Medal in Paris this year.
Julien Alfred is the winner of the 2023 Bowerman’s Award.
