Sports Awardees Named; Casimir Says Sports Will Continue Receiving Funding

he Ministry of Youth Development and Sports held its 42nd Annual National Sports Awards at the Pavillion in Rodney Bay.

Sports people across the country we highlighted for their contributions and achievements in their sporting fields.

Youth and Sports Minister Kenson Casimir says the government has invested into the Elite and Emerging Athletes Programme to fund the training and development of local athletes. The commitment, he says, will continue.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, through its Elite and Emerging Athletes Programme, invested approximately $481,000 in 2023 assisting individual athletes with their airfares, equipment, nutrition, and other fees associated with their competition, training, and education. Almost half a million dollars are directly pumped into our athletes,” Minister Casimir explained.

The Awardees of the main 2024 categories are:

Sportsman of the Year - Johnson Charles, Cricket

Sportswoman of the Year - Julien Alfred, Athletics

Junior Sportsman of the Year - DeAndre Calderon, Table Tennis

Junior Sportswoman of the Year - Zaida James, Cricket
