Prime Minister Pierre calls on citizens to put petty politics aside. The PM’s call comes as Saint Lucian sprint sensation Julien Alfred captured a historic gold medal at the World Indoor Championships. Pierre says the feats accomplished by Saint Lucians inspire others to do better.
Pierre contends that unity is crucial for the success of the country.
“We can't politicize sports. We can't politicize crime either. These things are not political. We have to go beyond that. We have to rise beyond that. We can't look for a short-term gain. We have to forget that. These things are national,” the Prime Minister urged.
Pierre calls on his political opponents to put the betterment of the country above their political ambitions.
“This country doesn't belong to any politician. This country belongs to the people of Saint Lucia, particularly the young people of Saint Lucia. We have to take some things away from the partisan politics.”
Pierre says now is the time for Saint Lucians to reflect ahead of the new budget cycle.
“Our country is on a good fiscal trajectory for the coming year. We also have issues of interest rates. Interest rates are climbing, these are the downside risks, and there is still a big dependence on tourism. Our tourism industry is performing well, but we have to understand these downside risks. Interest rates, inflation, and climate change are the three downside risks that we feel,” Pierre explained.
The estimates of revenue and expenditure are to be laid at the end of March.
