The Minister says his job is to unite all interest groups to develop a national preventative crime-fighting strategy.
“Crime is everybody's business, including the opposition, and the Prime Minister stated clearly that I listen to everybody and that they bring all stakeholders together. And he ensured that the emphasis was on opposition as well,” Norbert explained.
The Opposition has written several open letters to the government proffering solutions to the current crime situation. These recommendations, the Opposition has said, were ignored.
The Crime Prevention Minister says a deliberate effort will be made to include the Opposition.
“So I will make a deliberate effort to ensure that we get everybody involved, including the opposition. I will give them a seat around the table so that we can discuss it.”
The Minister says when crime is abated, the praise will be neither on the government nor the opposition. He says Saint Lucians are the real victors.
“As I said, when Saint Lucia is doing well, when we have less crime, we as Saint Lucians are doing well. It's not the government doing well or the opposition. We as a people are doing,” he said.
Norbert says the public will be updated regarding his ministry after the 2024/2025 Budget is laid.
