On April 24th, WASCO’s CEO Zilta George-Leslie detailed the Water Company’s plans moving forward, indicating that a reduction in pipe-borne water is imminent.
This shortage, she says, provides consumers with the opportunity to conserve water until levels return to a state of normalcy.
“In the next couple of weeks, we will have to reduce the length of time certain areas get water. So we're going to be putting in a schedule; in some cases, you may be reduced by at least two days. So, some persons who usually get water seven days a week might only now be getting water five days,” George-Leslie explained.
A hard decision, the CEO says, but it is crucial to ensure there is enough water for households across the country.
“It's the only way for us to try to conserve what we have currently. We would have to put in a severe sharing or rationing programme and you, of course, will have no choice but to conserve now, which is why we believe it's so important for us to launch our tank project.”
WASCO’s Corporate Communications Officer, Tovah Gibson, announced the launch of the water tank promotion. The initiative, launched on April 23rd and lasting until July 31st, 2024, customers are encouraged to sign up for a water tank.
Gibson explains that the distribution of the tanks will be led by the customer service department.
“We have chosen to partner with Bryce & Company Limited who is the only local manufacturer of storage tanks and they will be available in a range of sizes from 132 US gallons to 1000 US gallons,” she says.
She adds that the tanks will be facilitated through payment plans for customers who are in good financial standing.
“We also have payment plans available for customers who are in good standing and also for customers who are property owners, meaning that if you are a renter, you would have to go through your landlord for you to be able to access this facility. We have payment plans in store and we can find out more about it through our customer service department.”
Customers are encouraged to come in to apply for the tanks in preparation for the drought.
