Bakers’ Association Iffy About Minimum Wage Implementation

Saturday, May 25

"T

he commission, in setting a minimum wage, has not investigated how it will affect certain businesses, certain industries like the baking industry,” said President of the Bakers’ Association, Sylvia Cadasse.

The Minimum and Equal Wages Commission has invited comments and objections to the proposed minimum wage of XCD $6.50 an hour or XCD $1126 a month.

The Bakers’ Association, however, says the imposition of the minimum wage will negatively affect certain business sectors.

And whether we like it or not, whether we love a minimum wage or a livable wage, it is going to affect our industry,” the President contended.

Cadasse says the Association is considering its options as it relates to the proposed minimum wage.

What we found out is that if we don't object, nobody is going to do it for us. If we, the Association, the baking industry, doesn't speak for ourselves, nobody's going to speak for us.”

The deadline for the submission of objections is June 6th, 2024.
