Bus Drivers Remind Passengers to Adhere to Fare Cost Regulations

"P

assengers do not know the rules governing minibus operations,” explained the President of the Gros Islet Mini Bus Association, Danny Edward.

The crux of the bus operators’ concern, he explained, is the fare for children under the age of 10 years.

While there is a set price for this class of passenger, some parents opt to pay the adult’s price to allow their children to occupy an entire seat. Other parents, however, would pay the reduced fare for children under 10 years.

Some bus drivers would sometimes request parents pay the adult’s price for their children to occupy an entire seat.

The inconsistent practice, Edward notes, creates much confusion.

A lot of the commuters do not know their rights and. So they're always in conflict. The law still states any child under the age of 10 represents one child in terms of seating,” he said.

According to Edward, a child under the age of ten years cannot both occupy an entire seat and pay the reduced price.

Everybody wants the child to occupy an entire seat. Now the driver comes with that knowledge and tries to explain to the parents. They disagree and normally create a whole confusion,” he said.

Edward encourages parents to note the regulations where seating is concerned.
