Blood Donor Encourages Others to Donate

"I

think donating blood is a worthwhile venture for anybody. You never know who you could be helping,” said Lauric Etienne, a frequent blood donor at the St. Jude Hospital.

Health practitioners in Saint Lucia joined others across the globe in celebrating World Blood Donor Day on June 14th, 2024. To show appreciation for its blood donors, the St. Jude Hospital gifted them tokens.

Etienne assures the public that donating blood is not a dangerous or overwhelming experience.

More people should take their time out to donate whenever they can. It actually is not as difficult as you might think it is. It's a fairly simple process - and you get a free malt. So, it's really nice. It feels good to give back, and you never know who you could be assisting.”

Acting Medical Director at SJH, Dr Adelaide Moonie, revealed that the country’s supply of blood is far lower than the current demands. Blood donations are used for transfusions in nursing women, cancer patients and in emergencies.

Dr Moonie also encourages as many people as possible to donate to the cause.
