Talks of prepaid electricity services have been in the public sphere for years as the government seeks to provide reprieve for vulnerable households. This intention, the Equity Minister said, has been compounded by the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We asked for it. LUCELEC has communicated to me that in August this year there will be a launch of prepaid electricity. If you have never experienced it, it is something to try. I had it when I was in Dominica,” Henry said.

In Dominica, consumers can conveniently purchase power for their prepaid meters via telephone, providing flexibility similar to prepaid telephone services. This system allows users to buy credit and top up their meters as needed.
