Police Commissioner to Convene Press Conference to Discuss ORC Matters

Monday, Jun 24

"W

e are concerned as well. The DPP had his press conference, we are going to have ours,” said Police Commissioner Descartes-Pelius when asked about the RSLPF response to the damning calls coming from DPP Greene.

On Wednesday, June 19th, the Director of Public Prosecutions announced that he had advised the Commissioner of Police to “arrest and formally interview” the officers involved in the shooting deaths of six citizens.

Remaining mum on the DPP’s revelations, the COP broke her silence on Monday, June 24, by announcing that the executive of the RSLPF will be convening a media conference.

We owe it to the people of Saint Lucia to explain what is going on... in due course, we will inform you of our press conference where we will answer the questions that you have,” she said.

The COP made this announcement on the sidelines of a ceremony to welcome 80 new recruits to the ranks of the RSLPF.

Pelius asserts that despite the declarations by the DPP, officers remain steadfast and committed to their duties and are not swayed.

Police officers are functioning as expected. They are working hard and continue to keep Saint Lucia safe. They are worried and concerned about the safety and security of the people of this nation, and we are all working together to keep our heads up despite the challenges we face with crime in this country.”

A date for this press conference has yet to be announced.
