The June 8th double homicide resulted in the shooting deaths of Evitus Lynch and Thaddeus Denis at Manard Hill, Castries. ACP Defreitas adds that the Police have made arrests in a few of this year’s homicides thus far.
“We have recorded 40 homicides for 2024 and I can tell you that we have preferred charges in at least 11 of those homicides thus far.”
As for the outstanding matters, Defreitas disclosed that law enforcement is working tirelessly to resolve them.
“Some of the other homicides are at an advanced stage of investigation. And we are hopeful of preferring charges anytime soon in some of those matters. We continue to thank the public for the assistance that they have provided over time. Our apps, our crime hotlines have been active,” he said.
A major focus for the Force, he says, is the removal of illegal firearms from the hands of criminals.
“We are doing extremely well in getting firearms off the streets. The information, like I say, continues to come in. Of course, we can do better with more information, more assistance from the public, but we as an organisation are satisfied that we are doing pretty well with ridding the streets of these unwanted and illegal firearms.”
