9.8%, an almost perfect score, Jamie Devaux topped the island at the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA).

A student of the privately-run Montessori Centre, Devaux has been the closest in history to a nearly perfect score of 100.

“I feel amazing. I did not expect to top the island at all. Well, I knew I would do good but not this good,” said the top scorer when interviewed by the media on July 3rd, after the results were released.

Her mother, Dr Desmer Destang-Devaux, says she will continue supporting her daughter in her academic journey as best as she can.

I knew that Jamie was going to do well. I knew that Jamie was very hardworking. I knew that Jamie was one of these very consistent kids. And because she was such an academically-driven child, I did my best to try to support her the best that I could,” she said.

Dr Destang-Devaux notes that family members are academically-inclined and have excelled in the past. “But my mom and my sister are all saying, well, you should expect it because my sister was an island scholar, my brother was an island scholar, I never did that good. But I think it's in the family to be, you know, very disciplined when it comes to academics.”

Kimaya Marijkar, also a student of the Montessori Centre, placed second on the island with a score of 99.4%. Surprised at her performance, she has that this is her highest grade ever scored.

I did not expect this. I thought I was probably going to get maybe in the top 10, but I did not expect second place and I got 99.4, which I've never gotten before. This is my highest grade and I'm really happy. And I started crying when I found out,” she said.

She and Jamie Devaux will be attending the St. Joseph’s Convent.  Adwait Joshi, Amarui St. Omer and Andretti George, all from the Montessori Centre placed in the island’s top ten and will be attending the St Mary’s College.
