A leaked document, purportedly from the Public Service Commission, suggested that her contract ended in March this year. However, Descartes-Pelius set the record straight.
“My contract was for a year, and it's ending on the 31st of August. So of course, [my contract ending] is not speculation. Because when I was appointed, Saint Lucia knew,” she affirmed.
Another leaked internal document has surfaced publicly, revealing that notable gang members had threatened police officers following the death of their leader at the hands of law enforcement. The document included names and biographical data of 16 alleged gang members.
Commissioner Descartes-Pelius stated that the leak was under investigation and emphasised the gravity of the situation.
“It is something not just my organisation should take seriously, but all organisations. And that is why I said the matter is under investigation and the appropriate actions will be taken,” she asserted.
She also announced plans to hold a press conference to update the public on police matters, particularly the ORC investigations.
In June, Director of Public Prosecutions Daarsrean Greene recommended that the Force formally arrest and interview officers implicated in the ORC police killings. No official statement from the Force has been issued regarding this recommendation.
“When I have adequate information to update you, this press conference will take place. I know there's a lot you are awaiting, and of course there's a lot to share with you.”
However, she could not provide a specific date for the press conference.
