UWP Ready to Win Next Elections, Party Leaders Say

Thursday, Aug 01

"E

lections must come, Flambeau must win,” declared the UWP’s First Deputy Leader, Guy Joseph.

Joseph says the United Workers’ Party is confident in its prospects for the next general elections, despite currently holding only two seats in the lower house of parliament following its defeat in the 2021 general elections.

Joseph, who was among the UWP incumbents to lose their seats after serving three terms, remains optimistic about the party's future.

As we reflect, I'm not worried about the upcoming election. I'm worried about the damage that is being done to Saint Lucia. Time never stops. And Flambeau must win. So, I'm not concerned about that for now,” Joseph declared.

The former Castries South East MP argues that the party lost the election due to a low turnout of UWP voters.

The Saint Lucia Electoral Department, however, reports that more citizens voted in the 2021 election than in the 2016 election - 89,049 voters in 2021 as opposed to 86,525 voters in 2016. The UWP won the 2016 election, securing 11 of the 17 seats.

Joseph encouraged disgruntled supporters to return to the Flambeau fold before the next elections are called.

I want to say to our Flambeau family that families have disagreements, and families may separate from each other for a period of time, but we are inviting all our Flambeaus who deserted us to come back home to the United Workers Party,” he called.

Meanwhile, the country was ablaze with Labour Party supporters celebrating 3 years in government in grand festivities, which some say are an indication of the popularity of the government who will host a walkof progress on August 25.
