No Partisan Politics in the CSA, President Says

"I

believe persons are in campaign mode for 2026, but I have work to do,” said CSA President Thecla Goodman.

The CSA’s newly-elected President dispels rumors that the executive is politically biased. This clarification, Goodman asserts, follows a courtesy call the CSA had held with Opposition Leader, Allen Chastanet.

According to her, the CSA held courtesy meetings with both the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader as part of a formal meeting process.

One of the things I want to make clear is that I did not go to any of the courtesy calls alone. I went with the executive of CSA to both meetings, the meeting with the Prime Minister and the meeting with the Leader of the Opposition,” she said.

Goodman, who beat incumbent president Cyprian Montrope in the CSAs elections this year, says vows that under her leadership, the Association will engage with all office-holders who could assist its members.

I think we should engage all stakeholders. The Office of the Leader of the Opposition is an arm of the government. And I see nothing wrong in us having dialogue with the Leader of the Opposition, with the Prime Minister, with the Labour Minister, with any organisation that can bring benefits to our members.”

Goodman explains that this executive’s main objective is to restore the CSA’s respect in civil society.

That is what I'm here to do - to do the work of the union, to bring our union back to a place where we are respected, to a place where we can be accountable to our members, and for our members to be happy again,” she said.

This year’s CSA elections saw a 251% increase in the number of voters compared to the previous election.
