icoud North Member of Parliament Jeremiah Norbert has met with engineers and contractors to advance construction works on new stalls for fishermen and a cooperative building for the community.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader push to improve infrastructure in coastal communities and provide long-term support to the fishing sector.

Norbert noted that the new stalls will mark a significant improvement for the fishermen, both in terms of working conditions and overall hygiene. “For too long, our fishermen have had to operate in spaces that do not reflect the value of the work they do. These stalls will give them a clean, organized, and safe environment to conduct their trade, which in turn improves the quality of the catch they deliver to households and businesses. It’s about dignity, it’s about health, and it’s about strengthening one of the most important livelihoods in our constituency,” he said.

The project also includes the development of a cooperative building, which is expected to serve as a central hub for meetings, training, and coordination among fishers, suppliers, and other stakeholders in the local economy. Community leaders say the facility will enhance collaboration and allow fishermen to better manage resources and opportunities.

This follows the successful construction of a new jetty in Micoud North, a promise Norbert made to fishermen during his campaign. The jetty has already been welcomed by fishermen and other sea-goers, who say it has made their daily operations safer and more efficient.

Residents expressed satisfaction that the projects are delivering tangible benefits and addressing long-standing needs. Norbert reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the voices of the community guide ongoing development initiatives.
