Members of the public have bemoaned the closure of the Immigration Office due to mold infestations. However, the Office has started opening on Sundays to accommodate the backlog of passports. On July 26th, Prime Minister Honourable Philip J Pierre shed light on the efficiency of the additional operating times in the office. According to Pierre, the office was able to process over 3,000 passports in two and a half weeks.
“Things have improved tremendously with the passport situation. 3000 plus passports have been given in the last two and a half weeks.”, Pierre disclosed.
According to the Prime Minister, methods are being undertaken to get the mold situation in government offices under control to heighten public service efficiency and improve working conditions.
“Millions of dollars [have been spent] to move the passport office from where it was because of mold. It is the government’s priority to handle the mold infestation urgently”, the Prime Minister said.
Currently, an investigation is ongoing to determine the causes of delays within the Immigration Office.
