ousing Minister Honourable Richard Frederick announced an update regarding the Colonial Development Corporation Buildings (C.D.C) earmarked for demolition. According to Frederick, the buildings will be demolished towards the end of August 2023. Frederick says only one issue continues to hinder the demolition, but it can be easily resolved.

“Of the sixteen families that were in occupation of Block X, we are now reduced to only two families. We are working assiduously to ensure that we get alternative accommodations for them”, the Minister said. He clarified that “by the end of August [2023], that building should be in a position ready for demolition.”

Other issues, according to the Housing Minister, have already been resolved. “There were problems with connections of the utilities, water, and electricity, as to who would carry the burden of ensuring the supply to these various apartments would be paid off. All of those issues have been sorted it.”

As for the other C.D.C Blocks, Frederick says the Government will continue maintaining and renovating them. “You will find that those areas that are not earmarked for demolition now, or in the immediate future if they need repairs, it does not mean that we will have people in deplorable conditions. We will ensure the conditions under which they live are as humane as possible, and if it takes maintaining it until the last hour, we will do so.”

Currently, buildings are undergoing a new paint job.
