RICKET: The West Indies Women A Team nearly secured a win but narrowly missed by just eight runs in their opening match against Pakistan Women A on Tuesday.

The West Indies side was dismissed for 166 in 45.2 overs while chasing Pakistan's total of 174 all out in 49.3 overs at the Ghani Glass Ground. Gul Feroza's determined innings of 62 played a crucial role in Pakistan Women A's victory in this closely contested match.

Despite several West Indies batters making promising starts, they couldn't convert them into match-winning performances. Shabika Gajnabi top-scored with 29, while captain Rashada Williams contributed 27, opener Shunelle Sawh scored 22, and Sheneta Grimmond added 20. The team seemed on course for a strong finish at 100-2 in the 24th over, but a collapse ensued with five wickets falling in just 67 balls. This left the lower order with a challenging task.

In the earlier part of the match, fast bowler Cherry-Ann Fraser was the most successful West Indies bowler, securing figures of 3-38 from 6.3 overs. Off-spinner Zaida James provided support with 2-29 from her allocated 10 overs after the visitors opted to field.

The teams will meet again in the second match of the series which will be played on Thursday at the same venue. First ball is 9am local time (12 midnight Eastern Caribbean/11pm Wednesday Jamaica).
