Drive Responsibly! Motor Sports Association President Says Young Riders Need to be Monitored Closely

"I

f we do a survey, it is of young people who have just received their license, who are behaving in such a manner,” said President of the MotorSports Association, Terrol Compton in response to a road collision that occurred on Wednesday.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19th, an accident involving three vehicles resulted in two pedestrians being struck on a pedestrian crossing.

The pedestrians, young female students, sustained various injuries including a broken leg, head trauma, and facial injuries. The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles were unharmed.

The incident involved a motorcyclist, who was captured on a security camera performing a wheelie while approaching the pedestrian crossing.

Our roads are becoming much busier so I also appeal to the government of Saint Lucia through the Ministry of Transportation that intervention is needed. Though we have more riding schools, official riding schools which give persons the opportunity to obtain their riding license, it is prudent at this time,” Compton explained.

The MotorSports Association President adds that youth should undergo a period of assessment and training after receiving their riding license to make them even more fit for the road.

Therefore there should be some form of program after a year of which one has received his license that they can attend. We saw the police just received a number of motorcycles through the necessary channels and I'm sure these same channels can be tapped into to train an instructor in the field of motorcycling to conduct such classes and make it mandatory.”
