The parents, who spoke anonymously, proposed the employment of a crossing guard to assist students in crossing the highway as a means of protecting them from reckless drivers.
“It's not safe for the children to be crossing up and down that road. We should get someone, the government should put someone to guide the children along the way on mornings to cross the road and for after school in the afternoons, because most of the time the children go home on their own,” she said.
Another parent is asking transport authorities to place signs indicating that the area is a School Zone.
“As a parent and a user of the road here, I'm seeing a lot of things that need to be in place that were not in place, like this street zone sign indicating school zone,” she said.
The students, two schoolgirls, are reportedly in stable condition.
