The 24th edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) was officially launched on June 22nd, 2024. The three-day festival of pulsating rhythm, featuring various musical genres each night, will be held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Dominica from October 25th-27th, 2024.
This year, Dennery Segment will be getting its own segment in the show, poised to strengthen music relations between Dominica and Saint Lucia.
Artistes Umpa and Subance are the Dennery Segment artistes confirmed to be performing in October.
“This year, Dominica's World Creole Music Festival adds to the lineup two artists who are putting Dennery Segment on the world stage. We are elated to have Umpa and Sabance to give us a sweet taste of Saint Lucia on Sunday, 27th October,” said the Dominica tourism official.
Tourism Minister, Dr Ernest Hilaire, welcomes the partnership between musical icons in Dominica and Saint Lucia, noting that the two islands have always shared strong bonds.
“So many talented Dominican bands have come to Saint Lucia to perform all over the country and likewise Saint Lucia is going to Dominica to perform. So we've always had this strong relationship. I think in some ways we are probably more united and similar than most other Caribbean countries because of our Creole-ness.”
Dennery Segment, indigenous to Saint Lucia, began in Dennery in the early 2010s as a form of musical freedom and expression, blending the genres of zouk, soca and Lucian drums.
Today, the genre is internationally renowned, attracting crowds from across the world.
