PORTS: Eleven talented and hardworking Saint Lucian footballers are set to leave for the USA on sports scholarships.

This opportunity arises from a collaboration between the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) and the AR Student Athlete Soccer Scholarship Academy in New Jersey.

The Academy, led by founder, director, and head coach Anthony Roy, focuses on creating pathways for student-athletes to attend junior colleges, colleges, and universities across North America.

Roy, originally from Trinidad & Tobago, expressed his gratitude, saying, “It was an honour working with all the national youth soccer teams here in Saint Lucia. Thank you to Proven Bank, Blue Waters, the Saint Lucia Football Association, all the wonderful sponsors, the amazing footballers, and their parents.”

Roy has extensive experience working with young athletes from around the region and maintains a network of coaches and administrators at over 300 schools in the USA.

Your student-athletes in Saint Lucia are very good at their work. They are very athletic, hardworking, and good students, which is important. A pathway needs to be created to get more of them out there. And with my programme, we can do more to support volleyball, track and field, basketball, you name it!

This group is the largest to receive sporting scholarships all at once.
