Babonneau MP Urges Residents to be Cautious in Wake of Shootings

Thursday, Jul 25

"W

e need to help them cope and give some counseling to the families so that at least they can begin to recover from that tragedy,” remarked Babonneau MP Dr Virginia Albert-Poyotte.

The victims are Devon Maximin and Darius Agustine, who were gunned down on July 24th and 25th respectively. Their deaths, believed to be unrelated, have plunged numerous families into mourning.

In both incidents, young children would have seen the violence unfold between the unknown gunmen and the victims.

Dr Albert-Poyotte is issuing a call to her constituents, urging them to be careful who they associate with. This comes as many of this year’s homicides are being described by law enforcement officials as “reprisal killings”.

[Constituents] have to be very careful who they associate with and who they choose to be their friends and who they invite to congregate and associate with in the area,” she said.

The MP expressed her condolences to the families affected, disclosing that she knew one of the victims.

One of the individuals, I know him very well. He's from the community. When I was a principal, he was a student at the school. And I want to express condolences to the family who the families who are grieving now.”

Citizens are encouraged to use the police hotline, 555 to report crime anonymously.
