Man Charged for Smuggle Attempt at Bordelais Correctional Facility

he man who was shot by Bordelais Correctional Officers has been identified as Jamal Serieux of Dennery.

Serieux allegedly attempted to throw a bag into the recreation yard of the Facility at around 2 pm on New Year's Eve.

The bag reportedly contained mobile phones, cannabis and alcohol. Serieux was intercepted by the Special Operations Response Team of the facility and was shot during the altercation, after which he was arrested.

The Special Operations Response Team intercepted Serieux, leading to an altercation resulting in his arrest and subsequent non-life-threatening injuries. After receiving treatment at Dennery Hospital and Owen King European Union Hospital, he appeared in court.

Serieux now faces charges of drug possession, introducing prohibited articles to the Bordelais Correctional Facility, and intent to supply. He was granted bail, set at $3,500 for introducing prohibited articles, $2,500 for drug possession, and $2,000 for intent to supply. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 27, 2024.
