riminal elements in Vieux Fort received a special Valentine’s Day present when officers conducted a joint operation in the area, detaining numerous suspects.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force underscored its unwavering commitment to public safety through a coordinated joint operation in Vieux-Fort. This operation, which mobilised multiple units of the RSLPF, showcased the dedication and diligence of law enforcement personnel.

The initiative was prompted by a troubling escalation in firearm-related crimes and homicides within the southern town of Vieux-Fort. In response, the RSLPF launched a strategic operation aimed at targeting and disrupting the activities of individuals involved in these criminal acts. The primary objective was to stem the tide of violence and restore peace and security to the region.

The operation was successful, 14 Warrants to Search for Property being executed and 12 suspects in various murders, and gang-related activities being detained, further emphasizing the RSLPF’s relentless efforts in maintaining law and order,” a police statment disclsoed.

The RSLPF says the police high command remain in contact with key stakeholders in Vieux Fort as they conduct their operations. The goal, the police say, is not to disrupt the everyday life of residents.

Preceding the operation, Commissioner Crusita Descartes-Pelius engaged in dialogue with various stakeholders, including the Parliamentary Representative and Mayor, in Vieux-Fort, to speak to strategies for reclaiming our streets. This operation represents the first step in a sequence of scheduled police activities geared towards reducing crime in the southern division. Public consultations will continue, as the RSLPF seeks to restore law and order throughout our country,” the statement said.

Access to illegal arms and ammunition is a growing concern for law enforcement as gang elements use these weapons to mete out retaliatory killings.
