The student sustained injuries to his upper arm.
Education Minister Shawn Edward says this incident is extremely disturbing and the Ministry will be taking swift action.
The injured student attends the Ciceron Secondary School, which had a similar chopping incident earlier this month.
“Let me just place on the record that the Ministry of Education categorically condemns any act of violence involving school children, whether the skirmish takes place on the school compound or it happens away from the school,” the minister notes upon receiving the news.
The Minister says these incidents are a result of youth emulating the bad behaviours of influential persons in society. He is urging students to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid joining criminal gangs.
“We have a lot of young, restless people in the school system who are copying some of the behaviours they see being exhibited by adults in the wider society. It concerns us a lot. We are working very closely with the police.”
He says the government will continue providing support to at-risk students and youth who may be facing different challenges at home.
“We are going to step up the amount of psychosocial support we provide to some select schools. But I have said, and I'm going to say again, that the law will have to be used and the law will have to be applied to deal with some of the students as they continue to transgress not just school rules, but the laws of the country,” he said.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service disclosed that the student is in stable condition.
