Police Seize Firearm, Accessories at Burial In Vieux Fort

joint police operation comprising members of the SSU and the Tactical Response Unit conducted patrols. 

The funeral was that of 36-year-old homicide victim Rick Kisna of La Resource, Vieux Fort. He was shot dead on February 6th, 2024.

After a thorough search and on-foot chase, the police recovered an illegal arm.

During the ceremony, officers observed a group of suspicious males and proceeded to express their intention to conduct searches of their persons. One male attempted to flee and was detained by officers, following a chase.

The searches resulted in the recovery of a 9mm pistol, with a magazine containing 5 rounds of ammunition, a holster and a Glock selector switch,” RSLPF Press Officer, Ann Joseph disclosed.

The police say while they understand the right of loved ones to grieve in whatever manner they feel appropriate, brandishing illicit items cannot be allowed.

Despite an entitlement to grieve, no one should endanger the lives of others by being in possession of unlicensed weapons. It is the responsibility of the police to preserve the peace and the exercise was in keeping with this mandate,” said Officer Joseph.

One individual was arrested and charges are pending in relation to the discovery.
