Linguist Serving Country Through Educational Innovation

"I

t truly takes a community to raise a child, and I am indeed proud to be part of this supportive community,” explained young educator and linguist, Sam Eudovicque.

Having graduated the top of his class from the Université des Antilles in Saint Claude, Guadeloupe, Eudovicque says he is prepared to innovate in the classroom.

I am now eager to return to the classroom as a more equipped and more knowledgeable language teacher, ready to enhance my students' language learning experience and provide the much needed support to my colleagues at the Patricia D. James Secondary School.”

Eudovicque tells SNO of his journey from the inner bowels of Boguis, Babonneau to the academic halls of Cambridge University.

He enrolled at the Division of Teacher Education and Educational Administration at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in 2016 and graduated as his class valedictorian in 2018.

From there, he adds, he landed a teaching gig at the Vide Bouteille Secondary School where he left an impact on the minds of youth not much younger than him.

In 2021, I left my home island to pursue a recently concluded bachelor's degree in applied foreign languages in Guadeloupe, focusing on English, Spanish, and by default, French. My outstanding performance in just my first year afforded me the chance of going to Cambridge University for a one -year mobility program,” he said.

The journey, he notes, was never an easy one. Being a foreign student in a country where his native tongue was not spoken, he says difficulties were aplenty.

My most difficult times were at university, whereas as a foreigner, sometimes lost and confused, I studied English and Spanish in a French country. Other difficulties I experienced were that of financial difficulties during my academic journey.”

He thanks his well-wishers for their outpouring of support thus far as he continues to advance.

Today, having successfully completed my academic journey, I wish to thank the Almighty Father. I remain eternally grateful to my biological family, my community people, my school family, friends, and the wider Saint Lucian public for their support, encouragement, and investment in my education.”

He will be resuming his post as a language teacher at the Patricia D. James Secondary School.
