Ministry Advances Adult Learning Programme

ou have overcome, you are an overcomer. You know what it takes to overcome these challenges,” remarked Mercreann Modeste, Education Officer for the National Enrichment and Education Unit.

Students aged 15 to 45 have the chance to advance their education in a myriad of areas the Ministry of Education pushes its Adult Learning agenda.

This programme is geared towards providing skills training to disadvantaged quarters of Saint Lucia and spans youthful to more mature ages.

At the end, students will graduate from the ten month courses with certification in the trade of their choice. They will also be equipped with soft skills necessary for daily life. 

Director of the Generation of Employment through Private Sector Development Programme (GEPSED), Dr. Cynthia Polius-Prescott, outlined the Ministry’s education policy for disadvantaged populations.

She promises a thorough but manageable education process.

This initiative aligns with the ministry's strong push for TVET education, and we are confident that you, the beneficiaries, will greatly benefit from this opportunity,” she said.

150 disadvantaged and disabled young persons are enrolled in various courses and upon completion will receive CVQ and NVQ Certification. 

NELU’s Education Officer, Ms. Modeste, assures students that the Unit will be available to assist them through their course completion.

Measures will be put in place to assist you to overcome these challenges when you have to face them. All you need to do is to talk to us. There needs to be clear communication. Do not just get up and give up. Strive hard for what you want. Keep your eyes on the prize. Be determined to finish what you have started today,” she said.

The training will run from August 2024 to May 2025, and will be delivered through virtual and face -to -face modalities.
