Residents of Bruceville, where the shooting occurred, identified the victim as Marvin Charles. According to residents, he was allegedly in his twenties. However, law enforcement has not yet confirmed the victim’s identity.

According to the residents, the victim’s father also succumbed to gunshot wounds a few months ago. They have expressed fears that Tuesday’s killing would trigger a renewed cycle of deadly violence in Vieux Fort.

On Sunday, July 30th, Vieux Fort South MP, Honourable Doctor Kenny D. Anthony, asserted that the constituency is reverting to its typically peaceful character. Anthony reminds the public to avoid stigmatising the constituency and its people for the sake of a few bad apples.

“I don’t want to remind you tonight of the painful events in Vieux Fort South. It is enough to say that these events are now behind us and that the Vieux Fort that we knew is being slowly recultivated and that VF is on its way once again to being the Mecca of peace and love.”
